Who we are
Pulse is made by [Company name], a company registered in the United Kingdom at [Company address]. We build a social app for planning real-life hangouts with friends. If anything in this policy is unclear, email us at hello@trypulse.social and a human will answer.
The short version
- We collect the minimum we need to make plans between friends work.
- We show no ads and we never sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
- Location is used in the foreground only, to suggest nearby plans and venues.
- Contact import is optional, and only used to help you find friends.
- You can export or delete your data at any time.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, an optional phone number and/or email address, and your birthday (used to confirm you're old enough to use Pulse and never shown publicly without your say-so).
- Location. Used while you're using the app (foreground only) to suggest nearby plans, venues that are open, and how to get there. We do not track your location in the background.
- Contacts (optional). If you choose to import contacts, we use them to help you find friends who are already on Pulse and to send invites you ask us to send. You can use Pulse without importing any contacts.
- Push tokens. A device token so we can send you notifications about your plans (someone said yes, a venue locked in, and so on). You control notifications in your device settings.
- Plan activity. The pulses you create and respond to, votes, messages within a plan, bring-list items, and bill-split entries — that's the product working, and it's visible only to the people in that plan.
What we use it for
- Running the app: creating plans, inviting friends, voting on venues, getting you there.
- Keeping Pulse safe: our invite-only trust system, and preventing abuse and spam.
- Telling you things you'd want to know: plan updates via push notification.
- Improving Pulse using aggregated, de-identified usage patterns.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No selling or renting your personal data.
- No background location tracking.
- No reading your contacts unless you explicitly import them.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers who help us run Pulse (hosting, push notification delivery), under contracts that limit what they can do with it, and where the law requires it. Plan details are shared with the people you invite to that plan — that's the point.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data while your account is active. Delete your account from within the app (or by emailing us) and we'll delete your personal data, except where we're legally required to keep a record.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Email hello@trypulse.social to exercise any of these.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
